Keeping it Real Reflection
Throughout this project, I had learned some very important things. The first, is that teamwork is a very valuable skill, and I need to make sure that I am really focusing on being great at teamwork and collaboration. The second thing I have learned, is that you should always listen to what others say, or critique they give, but you do not have to take it. In our project, we had a good base going, but when the last curator came in for critique, we used all of the critique and basically started over, which limited our time towards the end.
I was a part of the “Hostile Conditions” group. Our Project was going into what children and families have to live like inside of these camps. One of my group members was very inspired by the ideas of mental health, and immigrants for our project. We then, with some critique, built up the idea of refugee camps and how their health is affected. With even more polishing, our project finally turned into what is today. I am super happy that my group chose to do this specific project, because it was something different from what the viewers expected to see. It made them think and really feel connected to the families in refugee camps a little bit more. Overall, although there were a couple of bumps, I am super proud of the work we put in to our project.
During exhibition, I stood by the project for all of the first half, with Ari, Shyanna, and Daniel, and half of the second. I talked to dozens of people, and really grew in confidence every time. Towards the end of the second half, Josh came in, and we talked to people, him trying to reach his minimum. He let me take a break though, because I had to take notes on other groups. Overall, I am very proud of the work I put in during exhibition and my participation to creating the project. For working on the project prior to exhibition, I always made sure that I was participating in some way. I was either helping come up with a concept or helping with the physical building of it. I could have improved a tiny bit on my grit in this project, because when we got the critiques, especially the last one, I just felt unmotivated and it was hard to overcome that, but I feel like I did, enough to finish our project at least.
For oral communication during exhibition, I feel like I did really well. I spoke up as much as I could in that loud room and was very clear with my language and how I spoke to everyone. I spoke to a lot of people, and each time my confidence grew just a little bit more. I am overall very proud of myself during exhibition and I wouldn’t change anything of how I performed.
Gaming the System
For this project, my group and I created a social game game show, based completely on improv. Our immediate inspiration was the television show, ”Whose Line is it Anyway?” We were familiar with this show and really thought it could be an entertaining and different approach to a game show.
As for preparing for exhibition and all of the work that went into it, I feel like this is more of where my work shines. My entire group and I had to use grit whenever we were making our throne for the majority of our work time, for it to flop in the end. A lot of thing like this happened along the way, where we spent so long on something, and it just not turning out the way we wanted. It was hard at some points, but we always just pushed through to the next option, and I’m really proud of my group for it. During the project, I had to use empathy quite a bit, especially because one of our group members was out for a while because they were sick. It was also important that I made sure that everyone had their ideas put out there, and that I made sure to fully listen to their point of view or perspective. I respected everyone’s ideas, and never intervened with mine when unnecessary. If someone felt more comfortable doing one thing or was passionate about something, I stepped back and let them do that. I was always on task, making sure that I was using my time as responsibly as possible, so I could ensure that my work was prevalent throughout our final products. I also wanted to make sure that my group felt that I was helping as much as I could and that I wasn’t letting them down. Speaking of letting my group down, I could’ve been a little bit more brave when it came to the exhibition. I stood back too much and blended into the background. I felt so disappointed in my performance, but wherever I lacked in bravery, I excelled in working and my creativity with the physical products. I believe that my integrity stayed in tact during the project, I didn’t let anything stop me from sharing my ideas and giving my input. Luckily, all of my group and I were familiar, and we all felt the same with the ideas and always built off of each other.y work ethic was very consistent throughout the project. I was very hyped up about our idea from the start, and felt the same way about it and worked just as hard until the very end. There was also a lot of collaborating that went on with my group, because everything was a team effort, and without input from everyone at all times, our project would’ve failed. My oral communication during the project was also good. We communicated everything well, and we made sure to ask for as much help as possible from teachers or other students. An example is when we asked to head over to Hobby Lobby, to help gain materials. There wasn’t too much written communication during the project, no emails had to be written, but we did communicate over the weekends and after school, over text, every so often just to check in with each other. The content I learned in all of my classes really helped me out, though I learned most from Humanities and Multi-Media. In Humanities, we watched the documentaries about game shows and the culture surrounding it. We learned about the television and the good and the bad about it, as well as the scandals and the achievements. Humanities is where we got all of our background information, which was very beneficial for us. In Multi-Media, we learned how to brand our project, and sell the idea of it. In that class, we made a presentation to represent our projects and made most of our physical components to the sets of our projects. This class was the most helpful for our final product that we presented on exhibition. For Physics and Math, we didn’t learn much about the project, but just had a lot of work time and we got a lot of feedback from the teacher. These classes were definitely crucial to the success of our projects.
Overall, I am so proud of this project, my groups game show and how I did during it. Thank you to the teachers for making it a possibility
